Patient Reviews

"I am a 52-year-old male with a long history of knee problems. I am fairly athletic, most recently with West Coast Swing Dance and golf. However, I paid for it when I participated in those activities with several days of aches and pain, after and almost no sleep, due to not being able to get comfortable in bed. It was time for the knee replacement. I consulted with Dr. Hanson, and he took the time to fully explain my options as well as the knee replacement procedure. I completed a lot of research about postoperative physical therapy, and decided I was going to make as quick a recovery as possible by following the physical therapy regimen, and doing as much as possible to rehab quickly. I was told by Dr. Hanson and his staff that I really could not overdue it as in a standard knee surgery because all the ligaments and cartilage were being removed. It was simply mind over matter and how much pain I could take. I am happy to report I was walking without the walker after four days! After six weeks, I danced my first dance and was already at about 134 degrees of bend. Dr. Hanson told me my six-week knee looked like a six-month knee. I couldn't be happier about the results so far.

It wasn't always rosy. The second week of postoperative, I was in a lot of pain and saw Dr. Hanson's PA, Craig. He reassured me that I wasn't creating any damage, and that I had to work through the pain. Once I knew that I just grinned and bore it. Well not the grin part. There were weeks where I suffered setbacks, but I just kept telling myself to stick with the program and it worked. You have to trust the physical therapy, and I trusted what Lindsey was recommending. I played in my first golf tournament this week, 11 weeks after surgery, and was probably a little below average, due to still favoring my knee a bit. But I was still happy with my performance. Dance has been great. There have been nights where I have danced 15 or 16 dances. Yep.... the knee was sore. I went home and iced, took some ibuprofen, and it has been fine the next day. I feel so confident about my new knee that I plan to compete in the U.S. Open Swing Dance Championships in Southern California over the Thanksgiving weekend. Thanks to Dr. Hanson, Craig and Lindsey at the physical therapy department, and the rest of the very professional staff at Sierra Pacific Orthopedics. It was a great experience!" -- Rob B.

"Absolutely wonderful! I was thrilled to have a very positive experience and have raved about it to my friends and family. My doctor and the entire staff were very professional and friendly at the same time." -- Twila S.

"Great Doctors. I had surgery done by Dr. Aryan and Dr. Hanson. I have referred 9 people to Dr. Hansen and 1 to Dr. Aryan, all from my country club. They are all satisfied. I am 71 and had a knee replacement and two cervical spine fusions.  This has enabled me to continue to play golf, other activities, and enjoy life." -- Ray F.

"From Mrs. Lisa Pizzo making my appointment, Dr. Hanson came highly recommended, the appointment desk, getting me in earlier, to Greg, all were friendly, highly organized, and skilled!  My shoulder is feeling better just as Greg said in time frame mentioned. Would highly recommend and THANK YOU Sierra Pacific Orthopedics, a job well done." -- Michelle W.

"This is my second knee replacement. The first one was done in April 2007. The staff in Dr. Hanson’s office is always cordial and reply to inquiries and messages in a very expedient manner. You are always greeted with a smile. Greg Mellor P.A.-C. who works with Dr. Hanson, has a very pleasing personality and makes you feel comfortable even when you're in pain. I am very pleased with the services I have received at Sierra Pacific Orthopedics, whether it's the office or lab. I recommend all my friends and associates to use Sierra Pacific Orthopedic. Great place." -- Rosie H.

"I have had the pleasure of being treated by Dr. Dunklin, Dr. Ghazal, Dr. Johnson, Dr. Hanson, and Dr. Glaser for fractures in various places. My surgeries included two for a torn meniscus, one external fixator for fracture of arm and wrist.  Six months ago, I fractured my ankle and foot, which meant spending three months in a boot.  Two weeks ago, I fractured my fibula, ankle and foot again.  I am going to undergo a complete shoulder replacement as soon as I recover.  I am eighty-four years old and trip a lot. All of the treatment and surgeries have been such a pleasant experience by caring and sensitive physicians.

The surgery wing is the best. They have kind and gentle nurses with lovely surroundings that made my stay enjoyable. I sent candy to the staff after my surgery because they were so special. I was apprehensive and fearful but they knew how to comfort me. We are so blessed to have such skilled orthopedist right here in Fresno. Please accept my heartfelt gratitude." -- Ruth P.

"It all started when I first moved to Fresno. Dr. Rod Kraft became my family doctor. He then moved to Sierra Pacific Orthopaedics and I followed. I had meniscus tears in both knees. Dr. Hanson fixed those.  Then arthritis started affecting my body.  Thumbs went first and I convinced Dr. Tanner to do both in one surgery day. It was a great success and of course cut in half recovery, physical therapy, etc. I have been seeing Dr. Smith for quite awhile due to serious spinal degeneration. He has been treating me with injections.  And lastly, this year I fell and broke my wrist.  I saw Dr. Tanner, who was leaving the next day for vacation. So, Dr. Johnson took me on and repaired the break!  Every doctor I encountered was considerate and genuinely interested in my well being. It's my go to place!" -- Janet B.

"I have many health issues and ALL of these doctors have helped me. They are compassionate and so talented. I am so very thankful for Sierra Pacific Orthopedics now and for my future." -- Patricia

"Dr. Eric Hanson performed a complete left knee replacement in 2008 and following physical therapy I returned to my normal activities pain free for the first time in many months. In June of 2013 Dr. Hanson performed a complete knee replacement of my right knee. This procedure also went very well and I had almost no pain following the procedure. Again I did the physical therapy as ordered and was walking pain free. On September 30, 2013 I awoke to terrible pain in my left knee. I went to the emergency room at St. Agnes and was diagnosed with an infection in that knee. I was admitted and Dr. Telles performed an operation to clean out the infection the next morning. Dr. Hanson was out of town with the Fresno State football team and was unavailable. That is why Dr. Telles performed the surgery. After more physical therapy I am once again back to normal activities and doing things I haven't done in years. I am very pleased with the entire team at Sierra Pacific Orthopedics from the doctors to the front office people. I would readily recommend you to anyone in need of orthopedic care." -- John K.

"In 2009 my wife had a total knee replacement performed by Dr. Eric Hanson at Sierra Pacific Orthopedics on the recommendation of a friend.  She recovered very quickly and her knee is as good as new. In August of that year, based on her great experience, I contacted Dr. Francis Glaser, also of Sierra Pacific Orthopedics, as I was encountering drop foot and shin splints while fast paced walking on a treadmill. During my first visit he diagnosed me as having chronic exertion compartment syndrome (CECS) in my left calf.  After Dr. Rod Kraft measured the pressure within the muscle sheath, it was determined that I would require an anterior tibial compartment release performed by Dr. Glaser.  Today I am walking two miles for thirty minutes every other day, without any discomfort.  I might add that I turned seventy-two in January.

More recently, after thirty years of a career of vigorously winding motion picture film, my shoulders began giving me great discomfort and I was having difficulty lifting free weights as part of my workout routine.  So again, in 2012, I returned to Sierra Pacific Orthopedics and Dr. Eric Hansen. Both Dr. Hansen and his very capable P.A. Greg Mellor informed me that I had acquired a “combination pizza,” (impingement syndrome, a rather common condition associated with aging) in both shoulders.  On October 24, 2012, Dr. Hansen performed a left shoulder arthroscopy, subacromial decompression, distal clavicle resection, biceps tenodesis, with great success.  After five months of physical therapy and hours of prescribed exercises, on April 4, 2013, I had the same procedure done on my right shoulder.

It has now been three months since my last surgery and much of the pain in my shoulders is gone as well as all of the pain in my neck. That was one of the extra benefits of repairing the shoulders. All of the support staff in both hospitals and in the office were very professional and committed.  For most people, elective surgery can be very disconcerting, but my experience was very successful and assuring. Thank You Drs. Glaser Hansen for making my wife and me “good as new”!" -- George D.
