Summit Surgical - Patient Information
WELCOME!
At Summit Surgical, our physicians and staff will do all they
can to ensure that your stay with us is as comfortable as possible. From
pre-admission to post-operative recovery, we want to answer any questions
you may have so that your surgery, medical treatment, and recovery are
complete and successful.
This information is provided to answer frequently asked questions that arise before surgery. However, please donิ๘ิ๘ิ๘t hesitate to contact us; we welcome any additional questions you may have. The center can be reached at (559) 449-2888, and our pre-admission nurses can be reached at (559) 256-1588, Monday through Friday from 8am-5pm.
Before your surgery:
You will be called by one of our professional and
caring pre-admission nurses to complete your health history, including
any information about medications you may be taking. The nurse will also
discuss with you any testing that may be needed prior to your surgery.
This is also an opportunity for you to ask questions or clarify any information.
We will contact you to provide your surgery arrival time and eating instructions. It is very important to follow these instructions. Unless specified, you must not eat or drink anything after midnight the day of scheduled surgery. Not following these instructions may cause undue delays, or even postpone your surgery to another day.
Pre-surgery preparation:
If you are taking medications, please check with
your physician or with our pre-admissions staff for any pre-surgery instructions.
If you notice any signs of illness before your surgery, please call your doctor or our pre-admissions staff. Try to get a good nightิ๘ิ๘ิ๘s sleep before your surgery.
On the day of your surgery:
Before coming to the surgery center, remove
all jewelry (rings, earrings, body piercings, watches, etc.). Any metals
may interfere with surgical equipment.
Please bathe or shower before your surgery. This will minimize the risk of infection.
Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing that will accommodate your scheduled procedure, including the possibility of a large dressing, brace or sling.
Upon your arrival:
When you arrive, a receptionist will be here to greet
you, give you your pre-surgical paperwork and assist you with your forms.
Please bring with you:
ิ๘ิ๘ิ๘ Your insurance card and your pharmacy card.
ิ๘ิ๘ิ๘ A complete list of your current medications,
ิ๘ิ๘ิ๘ A list of any known allergies,
ิ๘ิ๘ิ๘ Any medical forms requested by your doctor,
ิ๘ิ๘ิ๘ Any medical equipment used at home, such as breathing devices or walkers,
ิ๘ิ๘ิ๘ Your driverิ๘ิ๘ิ๘s license or photo ID,
ิ๘ิ๘ิ๘ Your eyeglasses, if needed,
ิ๘ิ๘ิ๘ Your co-insurance payment (if applicable).
Once your registration is complete, you will be called into your pre-operative area where your vital signs will be taken. We will confirm your personal information and issue an ID bracelet. Once initial preparation for your procedure is completed your family & or friends may join you.
In the pre-op area your anesthesiologist will meet with you and review your health history, explain the type of anesthesia that will best suit your needs and answer any questions you may have. Our surgeons also like to stop by at this point to ensure you have had all your questions answered and are ready for surgery. Next the operating room nurse will come and meet you to take you to the operating suite.
Your family will be directed to the main lobby area during your surgery.
After your surgery:
Summit Surgical is a two-phase recovery care unit.
Phase I occurs immediately after your surgery. Our skilled nursing staff
will see you through your recovery from anesthesia and transition to Phase
II. In Phase II, your family will join you once again and together you
will be given both written and verbal discharge instructions to prepare
you for your departure home. Each person will receive individualized care
from our experienced nursing staff.
Important reminders:
For your safety, we cannot permit you to leave the
facility by yourself, drive yourself home or stay by yourself the first
night after your surgery. Please have a designated driver and a person
to stay with you for the first 24 hours after your surgery. The person
must be 18 years if age or older. If any problems develop after you return
home, please contact your physician immediately.
If your driver chooses to leave the facility during the surgery, please have them provide a phone number where they can be reached.
Patients under the age of 18 must have a parent or legal guardian remain at the center through their entire stay at Summit Surgical.
Billing, Insurance, and Medical:
You will be contacted by your benefits
coordinator who will review your insurance benefits with you. We accept
most private group insurance plans and workerิ๘ิ๘ิ๘s compensation. Our insurance
and billing representatives will be happy to discuss your benefits and
help you with financial arrangements, including cash payments.
Our billing representatives will assist you by billing your insurance company directly for Summit Surgical charges. You will receive separate bills from your surgeon, pathologist, anesthesiologist, laboratory, and radiology, if applicable. Summit Surgical billing representatives can be reached at (559) 449-2888, Monday through Friday from 8am-5pm.
If you need a copy of your medical records, a Medical Release Form is
available for you at the receptionist desk. The form must be signed by
the patient or the parent/legal guardian if the patient is under 18 years
of age. Please allow 5 to 10 days to process your request. Medical records
can either be mailed or can be picked up at our office.
