Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)
Imagine your doctor being able to clearly visualize the internal structures of your body without any incision or pain. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) utilizes a high-powered magnet, radio waves, and computers to generate detailed images that assist our doctors in obtaining accurate diagnoses for your orthopedic problem. MRI is a noninvasive, painless procedure that involves no radiation and has no known side effects.
At Sierra Pacific Orthopedics, we strive to bring the latest technology available to assist our doctors and patients with quick and reliable diagnoses. Located on the first floor of our Herndon Campus, the MRI department houses a state-of-the-art General Electric 1.5 Tesla, short-bore MRI unit. MRI exams are tailored specifically to each patient and with the assistance of GE’s advanced technology, scan times are dramatically reduced. During your exam, the MRI technologist will be in constant communication through a two-way intercom system.
MRI is the method of choice for imaging the soft tissues of the musculoskeletal system. This includes tendons, ligaments, and cartilage—the structures that are most commonly injured during athletic and traumatic events. MRI can be used for imaging the spine, shoulder, elbow, wrist, hip, knee, ankle, and foot. We can assure our patients that they will receive the highest quality MRI available as well as the most comfortable and friendly service at Sierra Pacific Orthopedics.
Importantly, the Sierra Pacific Orthopedics MRI program incorporates the sophisticated Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS), which actually replaces the old-fashioned, hard-copy-based means of managing images, such as film archives. This advanced computerized process greatly expands on the possibilities of off-site viewing and reporting. Additionally, PACS enables specialists at various physical locations to access the same information simultaneously. The result is more accurate and efficient MRI analyses for our patients.
Bone Density Scans
Sierra Pacific Orthopedics provides bone density studies for the diagnosis and treatment of your orthopedic conditions as well as the prevention of musculoskeletal disorders, including bone loss. One of the most common conditions contributing to the debilitation of the world's population is osteoporosis. A silent, progressive disease, osteoporosis affects up to 28 million people and causes increased bone fragility with consequential fractures. For this reason, Sierra Pacific Orthopedics' surgeons recommend a DEXA/bone density study, a safe and easy method to measure your bone mineral density (BMD) and determine your risk for osteoporosis.
If you are in need of X-rays, images, and/or a bone density study or would like more information about them, please call Sierra Pacific Orthopedics at (559) 256-5200.
