Dr. Robert Gousse Shares Tips for Staying Active and Healthy on CBS47’s Wellness Wednesday

Robert P. Gousse, M.D., fellowship-trained primary care sports medicine doctor, recently joined CBS47’s Wellness Wednesday to discuss the importance of staying active and maintaining a well-rounded exercise routine as we age.

During the segment, Dr. Gousse explained that while walking is a great way to stay active and offers numerous health benefits, a comprehensive exercise routine should incorporate more than cardiovascular activity alone. As we age, maintaining muscle strength, flexibility, balance, and cardiovascular fitness becomes increasingly important for supporting an active and independent lifestyle.

Dr. Gousse discussed the benefits of incorporating strength training, balance exercises, flexibility, and cardiovascular activity into a regular fitness routine. Strength training, in particular, can help maintain muscle mass and stability, supporting the ability to continue participating in everyday activities while helping reduce the risk of falls and injuries.

For those who have not exercised regularly in years, Dr. Gousse emphasized that it is never too late to get started. He compared exercise to investing in a retirement account. The earlier you begin, the more you can benefit over time, but starting at any age can still make a meaningful difference.
