Mark G. Regains Strength After Shoulder Reconstruction With Dr. Benjamin Hendy

Sierra Pacific Orthopedics is proud to highlight the remarkable recovery of patient Mark G., who regained strength, mobility and confidence after undergoing a complex shoulder reconstruction performed by board-certified orthopedic surgeon Dr. Benjamin Hendy.

Mark’s journey began while attending a family wedding in Florida. After falling down a flight of stairs and suffering a traumatic shoulder injury, initial imaging suggested there was no fracture. Although he returned to the celebration, the next 10 months were marked by persistent pain and significant loss of function.

When conservative measures failed to improve his symptoms, Mark was referred to Sierra Pacific Orthopedics, where he met with Dr. Hendy. Advanced testing revealed four torn ligaments, including two completely torn, requiring an extensive reconstructive procedure using donor tissue.

Mark’s recovery was steady and encouraging. Pain remained minimal, even during the first weeks in a protective brace. Physical therapy was challenging at first, yet Mark approached each step determined to regain strength. What began with struggling to lift a 1-pound dumbbell eventually progressed to lifting 15 pounds overhead with confidence. Today, he has returned to gym workouts, home projects and swimming. One significant milestone was completing an overhead swim stroke for the first time since his injury, a moment he once thought would never be possible.

“Mark’s dedication to his recovery is a powerful example of what patients can achieve when expert surgical care is paired with consistent effort and a positive mindset,” said Dr. Hendy. “His progress reflects the strength of his commitment and the support of a skilled, attentive care team.”
